Folic acid has been used as an addition to the tadpole's water to cure some cases of spindly leg, however remember that an addition of iodine (as well as other "supplements") has been used as a cure in other cases. A quick run down on spindly leg cures (all the ones I can remember at the moment); too frequent a water change, too infrequent a water change, better adult nutrition, better tadpole nutrition, addition of tannins to the tadpole water (ex. oak leaf, alder cones extracts), addition of various micronutients (ex. folic acid, iodine), curing parasite infections in the tadpoles, removal of carbon filtration. If the folic acid doesn't seem to make an effort try changing some of the other parameters listed above until you hit your specific "silver bullet". I believe that spindly leg can be prevented, you just need to determine which of the many different solutions will work for you in your specific case.
