The Dallas Museum of Art purchased this piece from an exhibition at SMU's Hughes Trigg Gallery now named Pollack Gallery. Structurally the piece balances on a cross cut saw blade. Conceptually it gives an outlet to grief suffered when a seminal section of primal bottomland hardwood forest was found clear cut. I have only seen Clear Cut once since the DMA purchase. It was shown in DMA's 1991 exhibition "The State I'm In" curated by Annegreth Nill. But 26 years later I still have gut wrenching dreams about the loss of that special place in my life.
