highway of Deep Time waves
Thinking about the limitations of seeing in the scale of human lifetimes as compared to Deep Time.
A year ago I drew a timeline from Lineaus through Darwin and to current time. To make the line fit within the 21 foot long wall the Tucson Museum of Art offered, the scale became one inch equals three years. Then, for the first time I stood back and saw that my current life span equaled roughly the width of my shoulders. Three widths of my shoulders ago Darwin was publishing On the Origin of Species. And only three life spans before Darwin, Lineaus created the system for naming and documenting the world. So six of my lifetimes ago the world was essentially unnamed and unknown.
I can see no beginning and no end, except in terms of life.
