Ok I guess while everyone is on the intro kick I’ll take a few minutes and introduce myself. My name is Matt Rogers, I started PDF’s Oct 13th 2004 and just like everyone else im about as hooked as you can get. I’m 27 and currently reside in Canal Winchester, OH. I’ve been married now for a little over 5 years and my Wife and I have two Vizslas(breed of dog) Dusty who is 5 and Ozzy who we just got about a month ago. I currently am employed as a GIS specialist(for those that don’t know what that is…I make maps) although my current work load is requiring more IT and Web work then GIS. My wife Ruth works as an RN in a burn unit at Children’s Hospital and does agility with, and shows both dogs. Ruth says I have to many hobbies and its probably true but I like to keep myself busy. Just to name a few of my “current” hobbies Radio control Helicopters and Planes, Field trialing and field training both of the dogs, and Im also known to slave away for hours in front of our home PC wor king on websites and playing video games. Of course the frogs occupy some of my time as well :D
Well Im sure some of you want to know what I’ve got and what my animal husbandry background is, so I’ll address that as well. I’ve always been a Biology and chemistry geek ever since high school. I swore I would be a marine biologist, but like most people found out once they got to college, you can’t make any money at it. Which explains why im sitting infront of Dual 21” monitors looking at a background of some pristine ocean and not on some distant beach taking water samples and cataloging marine life. SO while the Marine biology thing didn’t quite work out I didn’t loose my love of marine life and ecosystems. Over the past 10 years I have been involved one way or another with Reefing and Marine Tanks. My last tank was a 30 gallon Reef(setup for alittle over 3 years) with over 300watts of lights and mainly SPS corals. My pride and joy of that tank was a breeding pair of Black Ocellaris Clowns hosted by a Rose bubble tip anemone, absolutely beautiful. However with the move t o our new house I couldn’t bring myself to reset it all back up. Reefing was a very large part of my life for a very long time and while I will miss it…man I wont miss all the monitoring, water changes, fragging(splitting off coral colonies), Etc. Which brings me to the PDF’s.
Well I currently have in my collection the following very fat, little pigs:
1.1.3 Cobalt tincs
0.0.3 New River Tincs
2.2 Vents
2.3 Intermedius
1.1 Retics
That’s probably where my collection will stand for the moment as the work load is relatively minimal right now and I still get to spend a lot of time watching and observing their behavior. Currently my Cobalts and vents are producing, and I have 5 vents tads split out into individual containers and another 5-7 vent eggs in various stages. My cobalts currently have about 5 eggs that were just laid about 2 days ago so hopefully those will develop as I would love to have more of them. By far my favorites are the Retics the coloration and behavior are amazing, and I could watch them for hours.
Well this is getting rather long winded, but I would like to thank several people who got me started in the right direction. Special thanks to the ladies at Quality Captives for all their helpful advice, time and getting me started on this addiction, and to Patrick Nabors for his advice and putting up with my constant e-mails. Both have given me a great start into this hobby and I can’t wait to go to IAD this spring and meet a lot more of you from the lists.
