My own personal intro! Where to begin?!

I got into frogs about a year and a half ago when I met John. Timewise, I still feel like a newbie, but I was 100% immersed in it for close to a year while suffering through unemployment. I was extremely lucky to have John as my main teacher, with such wonderful folks as Todd and Christina, and the recently formed Washington Dendrobatid Society nearby. Now all is right with our frog world, with John now able to devote all of his time to the frogs (while collecting money from the government for his military service) and me going to work in Recruiting for Philips Electronics.

I initially became hooked when John gave me a group of 5 azureus for my office AND I became obsessed with finding the perfect fruit fly medium (as I described in an earlier message). I have always had a love for making things thrive and grow, and my darned froglets were just taking too long to get to a breeding age! Flies on the other hand, are able to show you that their environment is well suited for them in a much more timely fashion. Now, all the time spent perfecting the frogs environment and studying other people's tank designs has started to pay off. (Not financially, of course; I don't think I ever had any illusions of making money from this hobby!)

The rest of the basics: I live in Washington state, about 1/2 hour North of Seattle (or 3 hours, depending on traffic). I spent the first part of my life and early adulthood in Maine and feel incredibly lucky to have lived in two of the most incredible places in this country. WE (as I'm always reminding John) do have about 30 species; the thumbnails are John's thing and I prefer the larger "tinc class" frogs. I don't have to explain to anyone on this list the joy that I get from working with the frogs, but just about as rewarding are the people I've met and the relationships I've built since starting the hobby. Not to get all mushy and stuff, as that is certainly not me, but I can't thank everyone enough! (I'm not going to name names, you know who you are; whether you have a fly business, are only 13 years old, used to have flame-wars with John in this very forum, have ever bought or sold frogs with us, are a crazy old artist, live in a state I'm particularly fond of, or have ever posted a message!)

And most importantly, and I am very fortunate to be marrying someone as terrific as John next April. Look for Jennifer Gibeau to be posting soon!
